LifeSource One Step Auto Inflate Blood Pressure Monitor with AC Adapter Review

LifeSource One Step Auto Inflate Blood Pressure Monitor with AC AdapterI used this automatic BP machine and I compared it with a manual BP, and it was more or less the same measurement (maybe a couple of points off but no big difference). It was also manageable to self apply the cuff. And the best perk was that the machine seems to be able to detect when to stop inflation of the cuff without overinflation and still maintain an accurate reading (which is a personalized feature I didn't know it came with). The only thing I didn't like about it was that the reading doesn't stay on the screen for as long as I would like (though you can access it by pushing "memory"). I'm assuming that's to conserve battery life? But overall, I really like it. I've had it for over a week now and it's been consistent readings. Hopefully it'll stay that way!

Product Description:
The UA-767PSAC Plus Auto-Inflation monitor incorporates the latest technology for accurate measurements at home. The advanced features of this monitor inflates to the correct pressure each time a measurement is taken. The monitor stores the last 30 readings in memory and also displays average readings. The average reading feature automatically calculates the "average" of the total readings stored in memory. It has been clinically validated for accuracy (+/- 3mmHg and Pulse +/- 5%), so you can be confident that your readings are consistently correct. The measurement range is 20 mmHg to 280 mmHg and Pulse: 40 to 200 pulses/minute. Also included is an Irregular Heartbeat Feature that alerts the user and provides an accurate measurement even when an Irregular Heartbeat occurs. The UA-767PSAC can assist in the management of hypertension, improve patient compliance to treatment of high blood pressure, and be used as a tool in a preventative health management program. To obtain an accurate reading, it is important to use the correct cuff size. A cuff that is too small will result in a higher than expected reading and a cuff that is too large will result in a lower than expected reading. The UA-767PSAC includes a small arm cuff size which has a range of 5.1" to 7.9". Also included are an AC adapter, trilingual instruction manual, quick start card, four week blood pressure logbook and warranty card. Both the monitor and the cuff contain a Lifetime warranty and is supported by a consumer friendly Customer Service Dept. which can be contacted at 1-888-726-9966.

Omron Automatic Inflation Digital Blood Pressure Monitor Review

Omron Automatic Inflation Digital Blood Pressure MonitorI had been using an Omron HM 780 for about two years and had nothing against it except for the fact the arm- cuff is thick and rigid and never seemed to get really tight around my thin arm.

Although the 712C model does not have as many features as the 780 one, it warns of the all-important irregular heart beat. Many of the features of the 780 I don't feel I need.

I compared readings from the two models and they were very close, but I feel more comfortable with the 712C's flexible arm-cuff. The maximum circumference of your arm for this unit is 13 inches so if your arm is muscular or heavy you will not be able to use this cuff. Be sure to select the box for the 9" to 13" cuff as you will pay much more for the larger cuff which is also available.

The 712C model is very reasonable in price, some $23.00 less than the 780, so if it can accommodate your arm and if you don't need all the advanced features I heartily recommend it over the more expensive one.

One caveat: the 712C does not come with an AC adapter or the required four AA batteries. I was able to use the adapter from the 780 set, but the unit will run fine on the batteries alone.

The Omron 712C is a very nice unit at a remarkably low price. Just bear in mind that the low price is for the smaller cuff only.

To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm.

Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm.
Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure.
What is IntelliSense?
The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort.
The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:

White-Coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home
Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home
Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning
Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.
