Overall, this is a great product.The functions are easy to use and I like the multiple memory function.I would rate if 5 stars if not for one annoying thing.The strap must be really wet for the watch to pick up the signal.That's no problem in warm weather, but riding (my bicycle) in cold weather, or riding an easy recovery day where I don't really sweat, the strap loses the heart signal.I have used heart monitors from two other brands (yes, one was the big "P" brand) and didn't experience this problem on easy days.
Losing the heart signal temporarily wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but what usually happens is it registers an abnormally high heart rate (like 205 bpm) when I'm trying to hold my maximum to say, 145 bpm.It's frustrating to read the data after the ride to discover you don't know what your maximum really was.
If you're the type who sweats a lot, or you use it in warm weather, it is worth 5 stars.Otherwise, it is a 3 star rating if you use it like I do.

The Onyx Pro's Marathon Functionality
The marathon function of Onyx Pro enables a runner to accurately check and evaluate heart rate and split times during a marathon. The runner can store the values every kilometer by pressing a button and analyze the individual heart rates and split times after the marathon. The marathon function has a memory with a total of 43 positions and is automatically aware that the last value stored only measures 195 m, not a kilometer (total distance of a marathon is 42,195 m). As well as the full marathon, the function is also set up for the half and quarter marathon distances. In order to be able to properly pace yourself, a speed table provides you with optimum guidance. It helps the runner to find the right starting pace and reach his/her set goal. Example: In order to run a marathon in under three hours, you need to run every kilometer in an average of about 4:15 minutes.

Sigma Sport's Onyx models are stand outs due to their digital, coded transmission. Through this technology users avoid wireless disturbances during group training known as "cross talk effect" in specialist jargon. At the start of training, synchronization takes place between the coded chest belt and the heart rate monitor. Consequently the watch only receives data from its own chest belt. The heart rate readings are converted into digital data packages and transmitted to the receiver in the watch. A time coding and ID procedure within Onyx models guarantees that data transmission is significantly more secure compared to analogue heart rate monitors.
